Graduation is a time for reflection and celebration. It is an opportunity for you to pause, to take a
moment to look back on what has transpired in your life since you entered St. Joseph's. In doing
this, you will be measuring yourself against what you were, identifying the ways you have gained
confidence, independence, and knowledge. You will also, no doubt, think of those who helped you
reach your goal — your family, friends, and teachers.

It won't take much reflection to recall the tremendous amount of time and energy you have
devoted to earning your bachelor's degree. You have worked hard and you have sacrificed, and for
this you have reason to celebrate.

As I have done in the past, I would like to extend a special thanks to Daniel Beni and Christina
Gryziec who, together, have worked tirelessly to make the 1988 ACHIEVEMENTS our best
yearbook ever.

DIVISION OF GENERAL STUDIES
INTRODUCES BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN
MANAGEMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES

Designed to promote career advancement, this program enables working adults to
attain the credentials and skills essential for effective management. It is a flexible
degree that builds upon prior learning and life experience. In order to be admitted to
the program, therefore, adults must be employed in a full-time position and have
substantial work experience with supervisory and/or program development
responsibilities. A minimum of 21 credits from Required and/or Elective Business
Courses must be taken at St. Joseph's College.

The development of a successful yearbook requires the thoughts and energies of
many individuals. I would like to express my deep appreciation to all those who
contributed to the realization of this, our sixth yearbook. In particular, I would like

RECOLLECTIONS

The Class of 1988

Returning to school at age forty has been an exceptionally wonderful learning
experience. I am extremely grateful for the guidance which was given to me and the
caring and sharing by the faculty, staff, and my fellow students at Saint Joseph's
College.

As I reflect back over my life, what comes to mind is that twenty-six years ago my
goals and aspirations were to get married and raise a family. Our first born was a son,
and later we had two daughters. These children were gifts from God, and I told
Vernell how happy we were.

Now, in June 1988, twenty-six years later I'm overwhelmed with joy because my
son and I are completing our college education together. As I make this transition,
Vm very happy but yet somewhat sad - happy to go forth and experience the new-
found freedom, and sad that I am leaving the many friends I have made over the
years. We have shared many joys with one another.

IT'S GRADUATION TIME

As I look forward to graduation, I also look back at the first year I started out at
Saint Joseph's College with a feeling of great pride and joy. Saint Joseph's College
offered a Bachelor of Science in Health Administration and Community Health. I
chose to major in Community Health which I found very rewarding and beneficial.

All my professors were wonderful, and I gained a great deal of knowledge and
experience during these past years. I also made some new friends.

To all my professors, I say thank you. It was a pleasure being here. I hope to see
everyone at the graduation ceremony in June.

To all remaining students, I say Good Luck. Keep working hard and "Hang In
There."

EDUCATION

The Class of 1988

"I'll never go to school again!" I uttered these words on numerous occasions after I
graduated from nursing school. The conviction with which I made this statement was
rivaled only by Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With the Wind when she so emphatically said,
"I'll never go hungry again!" Well, here I am graduating from Saint loseph's College
and still finding it hard to believe.

On those frigid Saturday mornings when I walked into class, I asked myself, "What
am I doing here?" or "Why am I doing this to myself?" But, luckily, I always found the
answer to my questions. At the conclusion of each course, my efforts were rewarded
with a feeling of accomplishment.

I am grateful to my instructors for their wisdom and understanding, and I will always
remember the friends that I made at Saint Joseph's. At times it was difficult to juggle
the demands of school, a job, and my personal life. On graduation day I will accept my
diploma with the realization that it was well worth the struggle.

I treasure the wonderful memories of Saint Joseph 's College, my second home.
Here, I was encouraged to be myself and not to conform. This helped to increase my
self-esteem and to carry these feelings to other aspects of my life.

Saint Joseph's College is a school that stands alone. It is unique in its ability to
serve the working adult. Through its flexible schedules, students are enabled to juggle
school, career, and personal life successfully.

I want to thank all of the professors who shared their wisdom and knowledge with
me. They are a rare breed of educators with genuine concern for their students.

Graduation is finally here for me and I can honestly say that I have enjoyed every
day at Saint Joseph's College.

Continuing my education was an important issue for me, but the school that I chose
had to be interested in me as a student and as a health professional.

Here at Saint Joseph's I found both. The faculty was warm, sincere, and always
willing to assist me with my concerns. This has encouraged me to further my education
so that I may share my new knowledge and encourage other students with their goals
and dreams.

WEST INDIES, TO STUDY

HEALTH CARE SYSTEM

As ACHIEVEMENTS '88 goes to press, we are happy to announce that General
Studies students enrolled in CHA 501, Field Study in International Health Care
Systems under Victor Brown, will pay a health care fact finding trip to Trinidad and
Tobago, the West Indies, this spring. The visit will enable students to learn about the
health care system of this developing country as well as provide cultural enrichment.
Students enrolled in CHA 501 may receive college credit for this experience.
